Great review as per usual :) I find it interesting though that you don't think the apartheid allegory is really validated. Did u know that a District 6 actually existed? That the shacks, cow carcasses etc are real - a shanty town of what's left of D6? I do have to say that yeah some scenes were a bit outlandish, but for example, in South Africa - it is common to have one person speaking in Afrikaans while another answers in English so I think Blomkamp was jus drawing on his childhood. I only know this because I grew up there.
And the idea that the UN or some other major power would have got involved is a bit funny - Blomkamp wasn't being stupid and missing glaring details he was just going on the years of ''major powers'' turning a blind eye to African struggles (Rwanda for example).
I still think it's a great review so ignore all the haters :D
ps. it's a not a Halo reject - it's based on Blomkamp's short movie called 'Alive in Jo'Burg' that Jackson came across after Halo fell through. Watch it if you can find it! It's District 9 in 6 minutes!
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

UrbanHippieChic,

I understand what you are saying, but don't you think that something as vital to a society as language needs to be at least eluded to within the film? After all, there are several lines about their love of cat food.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Regarding the language barrier, in South Africa it is very common to see two people conversing in different languages. Almost all of us are bilingual and many trilingual. As long as we understand what's being said there's no obligation to respond in the same language. Hard for some to understand but just the way it is in South Africa. I loved the film, the humour was refreshing.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Thanks for convincing me never to read one of your reviews again. Not because you misunderstood the movie completely, but because you did not manage to articulate yourself in a non-"fullofyourself" or atleast try to review the movie without nit picking the crap out of it...

How many people do you honestly think go to a movie and analyze it to the very bottom? Some people actually likes "just" to be entertained. Then you and your elitist followers can move to another room and share your need to be appalled.

What is it they say about critics and the subject they critize?
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

From what i have read about the genisis of this movie it was based loosely around the directors childhood experiences of apartheid in the south africa of the seventies and eighties. if you watch it with this in mind it really does change the perspective a lot. personaly i enjoyed it and have reccomended it to my friends.
Current score: 1 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

I think we all know District 10 is upon us.
